I want to control the charger locally with my own OCPP server and so as far as I'm concerned there's no reason for any information to leave my premises. I want to connect the charger with either Wi-Fi or Ethernet to one of my local networks which hosts my OCPP server and does not route to the Internet. I'm not prepared to use a proprietary phone app because without the source code for the software, there's no way to know what it's doing and so I can't trust it. Also, in general, proprietary software works in the interests of the software's developers and against the interests of the software's users. I'm not prepared to use such software. For further information see: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-even-more-important.html or the talk here: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/rms/20140407-geneva-tedx-talk-free-software-free-society/ There are other charger manufacturers which have engineered their chargers in such a way that neither an app nor an Internet connection is required to configure the charger and set up OCPP. It seems the most common way of engineering this is to have the charger offer a web interface for configuration over the local network, often coupled with a Wi-Fi interface operating as an access point to provide a local network.
