1. Introduction

Manchester Free Software (MFS) intends to organise LAN parties for free software gamers. The idea is that we will use 100% free software during a LAN party. That is, we will use Free System Distributions as designated by the FSF in their list of Free GNU/Linux distributions in order to play games whose software and content are likewise freely licensed.

The particular Free System Distribution which this HOWTO assumes is Trisquel which was chosen because it is the most up-to-date distribution and is simple to use.

The games were chosen by MFS regulars who are also veteran gamers. They were chosen for their suitability for LAN play and also their kickassness.

Some of the games require OpenGL and hence 3D acceleration. Therefore, it is required to use graphics hardware that has a free software driver in the Free System Distributions with 3D acceleration support. For example, on x86, an Intel GPU or an Nvidia GPU supported by Nouveau.
